trendy stuff

found this site the other day while looking for some designer-friendly presents. if you are cool you might even find info on your city. of course i have a complaint though… it is really difficult to read the clunky sans on the map and the icons are a little annoying. i think part of it is that there are so many damn colors too. vignelli would be happy to offer some suggestions. but overall i like the idea and the resource.

I am a review junkie, and it is getting worse every day. I hardly buy a single product any more without reading reviews for it, and this (sadly enough) includes this like ziplock bags and deodorant.

I love sites like this. The initial top-down map of New York is beautiful, but once you zoom in on an area my heart sinks... This is extremely poor information design. Whats with the repeating "superfuture" pattern in the background??? Why don't businesses with a review have a different icon than those without? What is the type size an indicator of??? So only big buildings get a yellow box to indicate their position? Wait, why does that little one have a little yellow box?

Maybe the site is new and they have a lot of work ahead of them. Thumbs up for the idea (and part of the implementation).
