Here’s a reenactment of the events leading up to the new design:
The Man: We need to freshen up our Brand. Lets hire a company that specializes in Branding.
The Marketing Client to the Designer: We need anew logo.
Designer to self: Gee. There sure is a strange runaround happing with this type. I know, I’ll put the sword thingy in a red box. That gives me a nice straight edge to flush the type off of. Hey, I like this. I’ll put the type in a blue box.
Client: It’s hard to read.
Designer: It’s hard to read because the type is all caps. I’ll make it u&lc and lose the decorative face.
Client: The new type looks odd for some reason.
Designer to self: It sure is unfortunate the way the type stacks. I’ll put it in a rhombus instead and make the weird angle look intentional.
Client: Overall it looks boring and flat.
Designer: I know, add a drop shadow!

Can anyone tell me why this level of thinking warrants a price tag of $30,000 and up?
