not so subliminal advertising
April 2, 2007 -- PARIS Hilton is slammed in Manhattan Mini Storage ads that recently appeared on phone kiosks showing a Chihuahua who looks a lot like Tinkerbell with the slogan: "Your closet's so shallow, it makes Paris look deep." We brought this to the attention of Hilton publicist Elliot Mintz, who alerted her lawyer, Howard Weitzman, who fired off a "cease-and-desist" letter to the storage company - which is also getting blowback from Republicans for such ads as, "Your closet's scarier than Bush's agenda."-- Page Six
paris hilton is slammed? interesting choice of words. personally i think she should be more offended by the awful photoshopped tiara on the dog and the outlined type.

This would make a fantastic poster... 432 square inches of masterful Photoshoppery above my pillow.
What it really needs is some rainbow gradients and lens flares, no?
i really hate the manhattan mini storage ads, too. they are fug and not clever. paris hilton is superficial and has a rat-dog? that hasn't been the butt of any jokes that i've ever heard. please tell me more. perhaps something with a chicken and a road this time.
I sense a tiny bit of e-sarcasm there.
Just a little.
no sarcasm. never. i am 110% earnest about everything i ever write on the internets. ...and say out loud for that matter.
i really do hate these ads, though. with an ungodly passion. manhattan mini storage, the ace of cakes, black snake moan, and ringling brothers bellobration are but a few of many things that make my commute a horrible thing to endure.
oh, and those bahamas ads? i liked that whole ad campaign until they ruined it with "bahamavention". hate! hate! hate!
Someone scrawled "RIOT NOT DIET" on an ad at the Myrtle-Willoughby station and it makes my commute very, very enjoyable.
I also love whoever takes the time to cut the eyes out of all the ads. They receive my stamp of approval.
how could you ever hate duff? BAKE CAKE!!!!!
i also like eyeless people in ads. and maybe i'm 13 instead of 31, but i do still find inappropriately placed hand-scrawled penises hilarious.
as far as ace of cakes... i dunno. i don't watch the show. i just really REALLY have an adverse reaction to that subway ad. i am sure he's a lovely person, and i spent an entire day once upon a time looking at his cakes online. that ad is really upsetting to me, though. so i do not hate duff. i hate the ad.
oh the bahamavention campaign! i remember back in the day when i saw a couple of the ads and i thought they were clever. soon enough i was riding in cars filled with ads everywhere. another ridiculous bombardment of advertising is the cheat on new york campaign by delta. all i care about is a) that you are cheaper on travelocity, expedia, orbitz. i could care less about cheating on new york and i just ponder the tens of thousands of dollars wasted on that campaign. advertising? blech to you sir. give some of that money back to the consumers and they will be more than happy to choose you.
ps: ace of cakes, thursday at 1030. you will not be disappointed. i didn't learn that from the ad, i learned it by flipping through the tv.
*sigh* and alas... of the 12 studios in the metro 4 experimental commune, only two have tv, none of which have cable. it was actually a conscious decision i made when i moved here to live without tv&cable for awhile. now, i tend to choose my shows carefully and netflix/bit torrent/itunes until i've completed an entire series (or o.d. on them). i probably still watch the same amount of tv, i just watch way less crap. right now my obsession is lost, next up will probably be entourage. maybe it was cycle 7 of antm that did me in (totally worthless), but i've grown tired of superstar reality tv. except for project runway, of course. when does that start again, anyways?
Bravo just announced that Runway won't be premiering until October the earliest. Damn them.
Malan from last season stood next to me on the 7 train once. I did a little mental-freak and then got off at my stop... I've got nerves of butter.
